Elizabeth, this is such an important topic and your thought-provoking article is both inspiring and practical. Our culture could learn so much from some of the Eastern traditions that understand and accept death as a normal part of life. When we can do that, it removes some of the fear.
I have to share a mantra my father loved to share, right up to the end of his 95-years of living: "I'm going to live until I die." By that, of course, he just meant that he was going to embrace whatever time he was given and try to live it to the fullest.
Thank you for this -- it's made me pull out my notebook I've been working on for my grown children and make sure I have all the basics you mentioned.
When you talked about the stuffy images we have about heaven, I remember teaching Huck Finn to my students. Huck would rather go to the "bad place" because it sounds like it is a lot more fun! Great article. I am printing it out as there were a few things I hadn't considered.
Thanks for this, Elizabeth. Facing a brain tumor experience has made me think a lot about how to live going forward from here. I love your writing, thanks

Again you did a wonderful job of explaining a tough subject. I am sending this to my family! Love your approach to things.
